We look at the government travel advice and decide from that whether or not we can provide insurance to travelers.

Although global travel insurance does, by its nature, cover the majority of the world, the current climate ensures that there are some places where the likelihood of incident means that UK travel insurance providers are unable to offer protection. Thankfully, the list is clear of the majority of popular holiday destinations, and you’re unlikely to have your big holiday plans affected. The most likely group to have their travel plans altered by the foreign office’s travel advice are business travelers.

The foreign office’s travel advice is not to travel to the following countries, even if it means losing business – the risk from the warzones listed below is just too great to make the reward worth the danger:

Here’s our top 10 countries to avoid traveling to, and the reasons for the high risk factor! The risk is far from conclusive (the foreign office’s travel advice lists many more countries), but to me, these are the ones that all travelers should avoid like the plague:

10) Liberia

Economic hardship in Liberia is currently making outbreaks of violence common, and foreigners (especially westerners) are at risk targets due to their affluence. This extra likelihood of incident ensures that no UK travel insurance provider would risk offering you cover if you choose to visit Liberia

9) Nepal

Occasional acts of terrorism and political violence in urban areas make Nepal off-limits for those who want to get travel insurance. In September this year, three nearly simultaneous bombs went off in the capital of Kathmandu, killing 3 and injuring many innocent bystanders.

8) Haiti

Haiti is considered off limits to many travelers on account of the high risk of kidnappings and civil unrest that is prominent. At the time of writing, there have been 12 kidnappings of American travelers in 2007 – mostly criminal in nature. In the past, these kidnappings have ended in physical and sexual assaults and shootings. The potential for spontaneous protests and demonstrations has also been known to result in unexpected violence, day or night. It’s no surprise that the government’s travel advice is not to travel here!

7) Yemen

Due to the high levels of terrorist activity in Yemen, westerners are advised to steer clear of Yemen. If this is not possible, then all travelers are encouraged to stay vigilant and to keep a low profile to avoid attacks or kidnapping. The situation is so grave that the US Embassy often restricts American citizens from certain hotels, restaurants and shopping areas.

6) Israel

The Gaza Strip and West Bank has seen immense violence in recent months between Israeli and Palestinian factions, and shootings, kidnappings and violence demonstrations have occurred in each. The region’s continued instability makes travel to Israel widely recommended against – the risk of abduction or worse makes travel insurance impossible to obtain.

5) Democratic Republic of Congo

The democratic republic of Congo remains one of the most dangerous places to travel in Africa, where violence, neglect and corruption has left the country distinctly damaged. Fighting erupted in the streets of Kinshasa in March this year, and the situation remains volatile despite the immediate threat of violence calming down. Travel outside of Kinshasa is difficult and dangerous with security, especially in the north and easy, being unstable. Any traveler brave enough to travel to the Congo should be extremely cautious, avoid the North Kivu district which is the backdrop to armed conflict between government troops and army rebels, avoid crowds and keep a close eye on local media.

4) Burma (Myanmar)

While the human rights situation makes Myanmar an ethically uneasy place to visit, currently there is a lot of personal risk involved as well. Throughout September, the anti-government protests sparked a violent crackdown from the authorities and made international headlines. Although the dusk-til-dawn curfew imposed in some of the towns has been lifted, it still remains an uncertain time to visit the country and you’re unlikely to find any global travel insurance company who will insure you.

3) Colombia

Colombia remains one of the most dangerous places to travel in the world thanks to the crime the country suffers from. The illicit drug trade in urban areas such as Cali and Buenaventura means that there is often a high risk of violence, while the more rural areas expose visitors to the country at risk from narcoterrorist groups who will often kidnap civilians to use for ransom or to gain media attention. Naturally UK travel insurance companies are loathe to insure travelers who choose to ignore these warning and travel to Colombia anyway.

2) Afghanistan

With the war on terror in Afghanistan still fresh in the mind, it’s no surprise that the country remains a big no-go area. Western tourists are obvious kidnap and assassination targets, as many of the disbanded Taliban and Al-Qa’ida forces remain at large and hostile to the new regieme. Additionally, the country remains unsafe due to tribal groups, explosive devices, landmines, military operations and acts of terrorism. Unsurprisingly, the government’s travel advice is to avoid travelling here at all costs!

1) Iraq

Given the high profile nature of western kidnappings by various insurgent groups, and the regular acts of terrorism and hostility to Western troops, it is no surprise that no travel insurance companies will insure travelers to the troubled country. The instability is caused by various groups – Ba’ath regime remnants, transnational terrorists and criminal elements have been known to attack convoys en-route to venues, hotels, restaurants, checkpoints and police stations.

While holidaymakers are unlikely to be affected by these less touristy locations, their riskiness means that business travellers will have to forgo their travel insurance if they are unable to cancel their trips.

About the Author

Patrick Chong is the managing director of Journey’s Travel, their commercial website, Insuremore, offers cheap UK travel insurance with free cover against acts of terrorism and a quick and easy online claims service.

Article Source: Content for Reprint

Could Your Business Withstand A Disaster?

by Sue Painter

The plight of the Haitian people and their country is on everyone's mind. The images we see on the news are horrific, pulling at my heart. Literally, Haiti will have to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix. Even with massive aid from many countries, getting the country set up and the people well will take much time.

Disaster visits without warning and quickly. On a personal level, it could be unexpected illness or the death of someone dear. For your business, it might be flood, fire, or an employee who causes harm. Think about the small business owners in Haiti right now. If their business is in rubble they have no way to make money even if they could offer what their customers need most. If their business was left standing there is no security to protect it. Already, many shops have been looted for their goods. Some shop owners have simply opened their doors and emptied out their shop, giving away everything they have.

Your business will withstand disaster only to the extent that you have systems in place that you can lean on when something goes wrong without warning. While this isn't a comprehensive list, here are your main concerns.

1. Are your business's assets insured? What would happen if a disaster caused you to lose your office or the equipment you need to carry out your business? You can either buy insurance or self insure, meaning that you have set aside money that could immediately be used to replace your lost equipment and get your doors open again.
2. Do you have back-up systems in place, and do you use them regularly? Could you recreate your financial records easily? Are your customer records secure and backed up either physically or electronically?
3. Have you thought about how to handle the sudden loss of a key employee? Do you have a comprehensive list of what that person does and how she does it? Do you have a way to get additional help quickly if you lose someone to illness or accident? The more you have your work systems documented in an operations manual, the quicker you can get up and running, back to making income.
4. Have you planned how to handle your business if you become unable to work for a while? Is there someone who knows enough about what you do to step up and fill in until you can work again?

If you are a business owner who truly depends on the money you make, it is vital to have answers to these questions. What I see for many solo business owners is that even the slightest disaster shuts them down completely. These owners ARE their business. When they can't work, there is no income at all. Even an illness like the flu effectively shuts them down. They've never thought about alternatives. Often, the loss of momentum creates a negative spiral that the solo business owner never recovers from. Their business just slowly winnows away.

One of my own businesses suffered a mini-disaster over the past few months, in fact. In early December I had major surgery that I knew would keep me away from the massage clinic I own. Plans were fully in place for my staff to take over my own work with clients. My practice manager was prepped and ready to take care of management and administrative work that I normally handle. My start date to come back to the clinic was set. My clients were all informed and taken care of. Well, while I was still in the hospital, the practice manager's father was found to be terminally ill. She left town and even now has not returned to work. Four weeks after my surgery, I unexpectedly had to have a second surgery due to complications from the first, making it impossible for me to meet my return to work date. One staff member left unexpectedly. Suddenly, I was down to one hard-working staff member and what I could administratively handle by phone. The systems I've put in place for that business saved my bacon, and allowed us to continue to serve clients, make money, and handle at least the bare minimum of administrative work. While I used to chaff over the time it took to put operations manuals and back up plans in place, now I am very grateful that I had them.

Disaster don't have to be as large as the Haitian earthquake to effectively shut your business down. If you want to recover quickly and continue to make money, get your plans and systems in place and review them at least once a year. These herds have been their measure of wealth which usually accumulates to adverse economic consequences. The bigger the herd size, the richer the owner.
Known for their red color clothing, the Masai have a reputation of being fierce warriors, though this has been often exaggerated.

Warrior hood system still continues today accompanied by traditional regalia, unchanged by time. This system is for the young males before they marry. The importance of this is to prepare the young males to be responsible people both for themselves and for their community.

The big responsibility of building the homestead (Manyatta) falls in the hands of the women. They are in charge of taking care of the entire home which includes milking cows, searching for firewood and preparing food for the entire family. Men generally make the tribal decisions and care for the cattle.

The homestead of the Masai consists of several thatched houses and smeared with cow dung on the walls. These houses are built in a circular design one next to the other. The central part is left open for the cattle and goats belonging to that particular village.

Most of the rest of Kenyan people have long forgotten their traditional ways of life. The western way of life slowly deleted the traditions of some of them. The white man brought formal education including modern medicine and this was the exchange price for the age-old customs. While most communities accepted these with open hands, the Masai are yet to open their hands. Despite more than 33 years of self rule, red dress together with traditional rituals are still performed.

For centuries they have continued to believe that all the cattle in the world belong to them and were given to them by Enkai, the God. A fact that has been a source of trouble with other neighboring communities by generating inter-tribal conflicts. The young Masai morans (warrior) job is to protect the cattle of their fathers and to capture those of other communities, because in their folklore God gave them all the cattle.

What has won them the great fame over the decades is their courage. It is true that when they surrounded a marauding lion, they crossed on it and speared it to death. This fearlessness has not been seen in any other community in Kenya. In addition to this braveness, the Masai have won time and again admiration from foreigners visiting the country due to their nomadic way of life, not attachments to possessions, and togetherness banded by the age sets of those who underwent circumcision ritual together. When a young man reached junior elder hood he had the freedom to have sex with the wives of other elders, his comrades, if he so wished.
Likewise, a Masai woman belonged to the entire age-set and sexual jealousy did not exist.

Ornamentation is very important and takes a big part of the Masai tribe. They have very beautiful bead-work that they make for themselves and also sell to tourists. Each age set makes its own pattern.

They have been living side by side with wildlife and sharing pastures. This is changing and at a quick pace as most of the fertile lands has been taken for plantation agriculture.
In the process, the traditional routes for the wildlife have been disrupted, forcing them to be concentrated in particular areas. Due to these plantations, the pasture grounds for the Masai 's cattle has further discouraged the nomadic way of life. Add on it the introduction of legal rule and government orders to keep distance from the areas gazetted as wildlife sanctuaries. There is little doubt as till when the Masai will remain the 'famous Masai '. They continue to demand grazing rights in the National parks.

The community has its own way of organization whereby the elder men are at the top of the hierarchy, then elder women, morans and finally the girls. Passage from one age set from the moran to young adult is marked by slaughtering of a cow as an offering to the gods.

Tourism has taken its toll too on the way of life of the Masai and Samburu people. The construction of tourist hotels in the Masai land imposed further restrictions to their movement and introduced a different way of life for those working in these resorts. The villages near the lodges do make some income from selling their hand –made crafts that include spears, beadwork and customary dances.

About the Author

Peter Philip is the operator of Natural Track Safaris, a Kenya based eco-friendly safari company catering for family outdoor adventures, camping and overland safaris.

For comprehensive safari information click here http://www.natural-track.com or here http://natural-track.com/safaris.

Article Source: Content for Reprint

Trekking in Nepal

by outfitternp

I swear, it will be the golden piece of your time and lay forever in the bottom of your heart.

Yes, of course, I am right to claim "Nepal" as a heavenly destination to make your holiday as a delightful semester of a famous university to enhance your consciousness towards the world, human society and your own life. Once you have done it, you will find "Nepal" as a greatest book you have ever read and "Trekking in Nepal" as a healing medicine for your restless heart compressed from the daily struggle of your extremely modern and developed society.

Here, I just want to give you a brief introduction about Nepal, our company, our team and about myself, just to hint towards the proofs for proving my above mentioned claim.

Nepal, you may not believe just to read a description in Internet. They say, its a museum of geography, vegetation, people, culture etc. Every hour you walk, you find the difference in everything: vegetation, wildlife, altitude, climate, people with their different faces, clothings, languages cultures etc, etc. It just applies 0.003 present of the world, starts from just 40 m. from the sea level to 8,848 m. But is more then 75 languages are spoken inside this 147,181 km square. It is not possible to describe its diversity in this short writing. As my experience, those who came here have always recommended to their friends and relatives "Nepal" as their holiday destination and Outfitter treks and expedition (P). Ltd as their helper.

Outfitter Nepal treks and expedition (P). Ltd is established by a young, energetic and enthusiastic team. 90% members of our team are under 30 of their age and I, myself am 26. In my belief, as every creature, humans are also just a living piece of flesh when they are born. Slowly they develop consciousness in their mind later. Some may get an opportunity to obtain knowledge from some expensive universities, but I believe, "Learning from doing" is the most scientific way of gaining education. I started from the root of Tourism Industry of Nepal, as a porter, but today rarely someone of my age dares to compete with my business. Let if someone is jealous, I have my own priorities, until today was it my secret of success. Though I never wanted to express in public what I value more what less, today I am going for it. Yes, its true, I'm in business and a business man seeks for the money, but my first priority was never and will never be the money. I can see, there are many more important and useful things for humans to earn to become successful.

Important is for me, my satisfaction. I'm satisfied only if the person in front of me is happy. I always give first priority not to earn money but to earn good friends.

Ah!!! Words are just words. They were and still are for me much too helpless to express my views and feelings as it is inside my mind and heart. I don't want to pile and pile these weak words here anymore. Only one last sentence I want to say is "Just come once to Nepal. of course, to Outfitter Nepal Treks and Expedition (P). Ltd.

Then?, Then I will try my best to make you happy and earn you as one of my best friends. When you are happy, I am confident, that you will be already one of my best friends. After that, you yourself will wholeheartedly try to gather some best words to describe Nepal, our team and me. That is what makes me satisfied and more and more successful. Let those who always are greedy and run after only money keeps crying. Crying and crying forever and ever.

About the Author

http://www.trekkingtourinnepal.com

Article Source: Content for Reprint

vel To Rome, Italy
Travel To Rome, Italy

by Cherdkiat Taesookavat

For new travelers who never been to Rome before could find out that it is very hard to imagine how Rome looks like and how to prepare themselves before visiting Rome. Due to the country's beauty and popularity, many people like to go there for holidays and business purposes alike. Since Australia is a foreign country, one must apply for a visa to go there. There are many requirements for acquiring a visa, and depending on why you want to visit Australia, a different kind of visa will be necessary.

For those who want to move permanently to Australia and become a worker of some sort, a skilled immigration visa is appropriate. To apply for this visa, you should be forty five years of age or less, be proficient in English, know what occupation you are going to apply for, and be able to prove that you are competent in that profession. To do this, you must pass an exam and show documentation of experience in the field. Also, if English is a secondary language of an applicant, they must pass an additional test showing they are fluent in the language.

If you have an Australian family member who is willing to sponsor your visit to Australia, and usually allow you to take residence with them, then obtaining a visa can be somewhat simpler. The sponsor guarantees that the visitor will leave Australia before the visa expires, and if they fail to ensure this, stiff penalties apply. This visa should be used for anyone visiting family, and if there is no business or medical activity occurring. The family member pays the application fee (upon which the visitor can reimburse their family upon arrival), and may also need to cover a security bond. The terms of this visa allows the holder to visit once, but stay between three and twelve months. Only under special circumstances are people allowed to stay for a full year on this visa.

The Electronic Travel Application has made getting a visa to Australia easier than ever, as the process can be done on the Internet. There are three kinds of ETAs, known as holiday and visiting, short stay business, and long stay business. Holiday ETAs allow people to enter the country multiple times over a period of a year. However, each visit is supposed to be limited to three months or shorter.

Short stay business visas are for businesspeople that come to Australia occasionally for meetings or other things of that nature. Those who travel frequently would not be suited to this type of ETA, as it only permits one visit every three months. Long stay ETAs are actually quite similar to short term ETAs, except you are allowed to stay for at most three months on your trip.

Since ETAs can be obtained online, many people take this route, as it is the simplest. Several websites offer ETA processing, and all they require is a valid passport, credit card, and some other identifying information. After completion of an application, a reference number is provided so the user can go back to the website later to check their status, as well as print materials.

A basic visa application, for most types except sponsored family, is around $55. If you go through a website and utilize ETA, there may be additional fees that are contingent on the site itself. Most people are willing to pay these fees in exchange for the convenience of being able to get a visa online.
About the Author
Traveling to Australia? Imagine the volume of sounds that are all around you: others calling to each other, cell phones ringing, the chatter of friends and you want to speak to your friend across the road. What do you do? You use hand gestures to agree on who should go over to the other side of the streets. This can expand to signs of wanting to eat food and a long list of items. So in such a ancient society and the development of hand gestures has evolved, and different in differing areas of China.

But you as an innocent visitor must take care to not use your hands in ways Chinese find offensive. Fortunately that list is low so mostly there is plenty of both in a Chinese streets, lots of talking at various volumes, mostly quiet, and hand gestures. If a Chinese is asking you, or anyone to come to him, he will extend a hand palm down. He or she will then curl their fingers towards themselves. Western eyes at first see this as patronizing as if calling a child, but it is not arrogance as if calling a child, and in China simply part of the way things have come to be.
In community farm or retail or household goods markets, the fingers up to ten and more can be quickly shown by hands held up, fingers held up. Although in Chinese finger counting it gets more complicated after the number five, as the counter then use his other hand in the same way by marking off from finger six to finger ten, which to western minds makes no sense. It is likely the abacus with its beads on a rod came from initial finger counting, although the abacus is used right to left, but as both hands engaged, all fingers counting, multiple fingers on different hands can show the volume or value of a multiple transaction.

Pointing is another difference between the west and China. When a Chinese refers to herself, she, or he will point to their nose, not to their body or chest as we would. Also, when a Chinese person points at another person they point at that third persons nose. In southern China, a tea drinker simply knocks two fingers again the table to say that is enough tea. It also says thank you. There is a legend that many centuries ago an emperor went out with a few attendants to walk in paupers guise.
At a tea room, when one of the emperors attendants poured tea and did not apply the rules in his mind quickly enough. Spilling hot tea into the emperors lap, knowing he must not bow or he would reveal the emperors existence in their presence. So the attendant pressed two fingers thus implying a bow. Not a full kowtow, but it pleased the emperor so much it became part of playful life in the palace. This practice is still observed in a great arc of humanity around Hog Kong and the metropolitan 30 million people inearby.

Even with vast infusions of people, the southern tea and other ceeremonies carry on. This vast urban and industrial area has been created in the frst and greatest Special Economic Zones, which has become engine and exporter to the world. Some of our western habits such as shaking hands occurs now naturally, and western ways are inching their ways into daily life, mostly in the urban coastal cities. As far as obscene gestures the east is quick to follow, with their own twist.
One hand holding cell phone, now there can be a second hand, raised with middle finger raised and all other fingers down. This young person salute has become more popular than any could have ever imagined a few years ago. Chinese antiques shop shop keepers would be in a different world in some modern parts of many cities. The Chinesee have a hand gesture for it.

About the Author
Derek Dashwood enjoys noticing positive ways we progress, the combining of science into the humanities to measure life at Chinese Antiques
Article Source: Content for Reprint

geria Wants to Re-Write History
Nigeria Wants to Re-Write History

by Alex Weidmann

In fact, it is nothing but the truth that Nigeria's past and present are, unfortunately, the dictators are trying to rewrite history. Former dictator of Nigeria have continued to show such hatred towards the appearance of oral and written history and basically try to wish away all that by rewriting the country's history and their works either in the past or present.
We also hope to achieve the goal of completely erase their past actions, especially those that are harmful to the course of the nation and the people of that country.

History is defined as the study of history is the study of the past, particularly the written records of the human race but more generally including scientific and archaeological discoveries about the past.
Academically, history is the research that produced a description and analysis of recent developments of relevance to the human race. "Those who studied history as a profession are called historians, so it is right to ask that when the bulk of Nigeria to become leaders of the historians?

Recently, this tradition has been strengthened by the entry of three former dictators who ruled Nigeria from 1983 to 1999. General Mohammadu Buhari, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdusalami Abubakar, three of which came together after perhaps a reunion of three men united to inform Nigerians and not much less than the world that the late General Sani Abacha did not steal money from Nigeria. This event marked a clear turning point in the growth of interest in Nigeria's former leaders try to deceive or back of the hands of the immediate past history, because the country's president, Olusegun Obasanjo also made the recovery of these huge sums of money.
November 10, 1998, the government of General Abubakar Abdusalami announced to the world that his government had made a great recovery from general Sani Abacha, loot the coffers of the country, the government put at N64 billion. Nigerians greeted him and thought that money was sizably reflected in the economic development of the nation or socially used to develop the country through simple repairs or contructions roads, and perhaps the supply of hospital equipment in our hospital General, but neither was the case.

General Sani Abacha was there first, because there was Ibrahim Babangida before him as one of the first presidents of the military world, without seeing a Vice President and Gen Mohammadu Buhari was himself overthrown by Ibrahim Babangida Buhari believed that a stab in his way back back in 1985, Nigerians heard the announcement of the Abacha military leader of the just undid that the theft of his money in Nigeria through his personal friends Buhari, Babangida and Abdusalami. What a historic turning point in the life of our nation, Nigeria. Nigeria yet to complain because she knew that history was being done. Nigeria must mourn for now. Fernand Braudel wrote
"Everything must be recaptured and transferred into the general framework of history, so that despite the difficulties, the fundamental paradoxes and contradictions, it is possible respect the unity of history which is also the unity of life. " However, these apparent Historian General denies this desperate bids to rewrite the story and characters clean paint instead of trying to convince the public that the nation was now the remorse and the need for change as William L. Burton puts it "If you do not like the past, change, these leaders seem to be seeing things that everyone can not see or even imagine.

Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the June 12, 1993 electoral arbiter also just recently came out with a bang to tell what the Nigerians, including the story would not have imagined that occur at least with regard to the history of the June 12 elections in Nigeria is concerned that many people who witnessed the events are still alive Abiola secure it. This teacher will tell Nigerians that General Ibrahim Babangida was not responsible for the annulment of the election, which saw the late Chief MKO emerging as the winner of elections leaving the mother country's history to see if the teacher is always present when the elections in the country, an act to see it fall out of favor with the people of Nigeria.
They are students of history and historians never rely on this book? So many books seem to exist in this country today, written by our former leaders and political historians to find such books unreliable because they have not succeeded and do nothing other than historical facts in support of turning their acts and deeds or more precisely to correct their actions contrary to the perception of the masses. The reason behind this is not exaggeration, but that "they are persecuted for their past and their perception of the possible functions for future generations.

To fill the void made in writing and / or tried to write his own account "(Sunday Vanguard, July 13, 2008, P.42 This Professor Humphrey Nwosu's book on June 12 could suggest that most of these works can be cooked and sponsored accounts submitted to the people of Nigeria for consumption.
history as a discipline has been reduced to nothing in Nigeria courtesy of the Armed Forces and the Federal Ministry of Education some of them even studied History. It is therefore not surprising that in the country today, history means nothing to no one discipline is still the basis of the survival of any nation, because the instills discipline or topic patriotism and nationalism in the minds of the citizens of any nation. It takes the knowledge of the history of the nation for people to love their nation and give their best efforts for the survival of that nation.

Military and Federal Ministry of Education as indicated above have not left here with no stone unturned to ensure that the story is almost completely erased or completely dead in the school curriculum for young people and high schools in the country. Instead of making the study of history in particular as regards the history of the country required the military and the Ministry have decided to put it optional with the Government as a subject in secondary school . Obviously, this is the beginning of the death of the subject, as students were deliberately hatred. But in many of our schools here, teachers do not exist to teach this subject.
At the tertiary level, the teaching of history as a course is gradually lost as it has merged with international studies, international relations, diplomacy, strategic studies, etc., which means all the same, but different sounds. The proponent of this murder can be traced back to Obasanjo, in 1976 and redesigned in October 1979 the National Policy on Education, while the replacement of Social History, with studies in junior high school, while only survives as an option in the upper secondary school level (see again on Sunday Vanguard, July 13, 2008) The involvement of Obasanjo's work is the negation of the Nigerian possibility of understanding ourselves and the world.

Ironically, the same term for Obasanjo, that teachers Historical Society of Nigeria to investigate and issue recommendations to the Government on what to do Nigerians to be patriotic and nationalistic in their thoughts and nature once again. Eghagha Dr. Esperanza, Department of English, University of Lagos later wrote again recommended the restoration of history in the curriculum of the country. It remains to be done taking into account the character of Obasanjo, the then president of the country.
Although the damage caused by Obasanjo still lingers today, an appeal to go the current administration for discipline, because again as Sigmund Freud said "Only a good-for-nothing is not interested in their past." We also know that every human being wants to know what events in your country and the world at large, which certainly increases the awareness of the immediate environment and larger. Nigerians should not be included in the dark as previously thought, and once prepared by the military regime of the country continues to maintain that in writing and rewrite the books, their actions can be misunderstood or deletions to be real. It would have involved weeks on a boat travelling around the world then arriving in a country you knew very little about. In many ways you would be forfeiting any contact with family other than by mail which would take weeks to arrive. In most cases you would be permanently abandoning your previous life, as visits home would be beyond the means of most.

Today emigration is quite different. New Zealand is a day's flight away with a range of airlines to choose from offering frequent schedules and discount prices. Books, magazines, the internet and television provide us with a wealth of information about the country. This enables us to carry out as much research as we like prior to making the decision to emigrate, even to the extent of looking at potential houses, cars and even jobs while still sitting in the comfort of our own home.

Technological developments with email, webcams and reduced phone costs also mean that you can speak to family and friends as often as you would when you were at home. There is no longer the need to feel isolated as the world rapidly becomes a smaller place. All these developments, combined with the natural beauty, wealth of opportunities and laid back lifestyle have made New Zealand an even more enticing destination for migrants.

New Zealand is a small country of only 4 million people and as it grows and develops it welcomes the innovation, skills and diversity new migrants can bring. The culture is so similar to that of the UK, Europe or North America that there is very little 'culture-shock' to deal with. As you can imagine the dreams of an idyllic new life easily begin to take shape. However, prospective migrants can also get carried away with the idealised vision of what a new life in New Zealand means.

The key to successful emigration to a new country is to have 'open eyes and an open mind'. If you choose to read only the interesting and exciting information about emigrating you will be all the more disappointed and disheartened when you are faced with an inevitable problem or stumbling block. By being aware of the rewards and the pitfalls prior to moving you are able to anticipate situations and then react effectively when problems do arise. Also by having too many preconceived ideas of what you expect or want New Zealand to be, you may find you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Many people who undertake emigration to New Zealand want it to be the 'same as home' and are upset when they find they can't buy their favourite brand of cereal they usually have. Others want it to be 'completely different from home' and are then equally disappointed when they find Coronation Street is only a few weeks behind the UK. The joys you will find in your new life will be made up of both the familiar and unfamiliar - the expected and the totally unexpected - and that is the fantastic experience of emigration to a new country.

If you choose to emigrate to New Zealand you can look forward to a wealth of new experiences and fantastic opportunities for you and your family. Relish in the unknown as this is what makes such a move so refreshing. By embracing the infamous laid back Kiwi lifestyle and the rich vibrant culture you can successfully make New Zealand your new home.

About the Author

Thomas Pretty looks into New Zealand emigration trends and what people can expect from their new life abroad. One of the most frequently seen wildlife is the spotted hyena, yet little is known about them.
In the traditional African society, the Hyena has been branded 'the coward one'.
This has been due to the way of feeding of the hyena. Known as a scavenger, the hyena is actually a great hunter and scavenging only makes 5%- 10% of their meals.
They rarely leave any evidence especially because they devour everything. For example they can make a kill in the night and the only sign will be light blood stains.
In the recent years the complexity of the hyenas has been revealed. Lots of time has been dedicated to studying them. This article is about hyenas and their survival tactics in the savannahs of Kenya. They range throughout sub-Saharan Africa in savannah, arid areas, and open woodlands. So far they aren't present at the coast.
There exist three species of hyenas in Africa. Two species are found in Kenya.
The most common being the spotted hyena, crocuta crocuta.
They live in groups called clans and the clan is under the leadership of the oldest female, the alpha female. Interestingly, the females are dominant over the males and are heavier than them. The females genitalia are very masculinized which contributes to their being aggressive. Such sex dimorphism is not common with other wildlife. This is due to the presence of higher level of testosterone in the female's body than that of the males.
A distinguishing feature with the hyenas is the 'haunch-back' and short hind legs. They hold their head low when they walk. Usually the head has a rounded skull and long ears. They have extremely strong jaws and a complex acidic digestion system. This is one of the factors that give them a step ahead for survival. They are capable of ingesting bones, horns, hooves and the tough animal skins.
Only the hair is not digested and this usually comes out in the form of bolus or locally referred to 'hyena hair ball'. All this bone matter that they eat is what makes the hyena feces chalk-white.
They hunt in packs in a way that could be termed as ruthless as they do not have a killing bite. They lack in hunting technique and most cases they run down their victim to exhaustion. Usually they attack their prey and tear chunks before their victim dies.
It is interesting to know that lions steal lots of their kills. It is true that hyenas do the final cleaning by chewing the bones and the skins left by others. In some cases the hyenas have succeeded to steal from the lions but in most of occurrences the reverse is more common.
The reproduction and life cycle is not seasonal. The females do not however mate with their members of the clan. They can take any other wandering male for mating and discard him. Four months is the gestation period and usually give birth to up to four cubs. These are usually black in color with some others having small taint of black. A weird thing that happens with the cubs is competition over who nurses first.
This in most cases result in fighting for dominance. The looser usually starves to death and this is only with the female cubs. Hyenas, unlike other wildlife take very long to wean their cubs. It may take between 14-18 months. The female can lactate up to 12 months with milk that is very high in protein percentage.( 14%). The cubs start following the mother to the point of kill when they reach 1 year.
They do not bring back food to the den. They eat to their fill on the spot.
The female cubs stay in the clan of their birth but males are kicked out when they reach around 2 years. Apart from playing with the cubs the male has no role in upbringing of the cubs.
One clan can have between 20-100 members, all on the matriarchal system. All the members are related. Each clan digs its own den which comprises of deep and long tunnels to accommodate the clan. They mark their territory through anal sac secretions. This is a paste that they use to define their boundary and is deposited at the edge of their territory. That is their home-territory that they protect and intruders are not welcome. They have a greeting system of sniffing each others genitalia and also as a way of identification or recognition within members of the same clan.
To the untrained eye, it is difficult to differentiate between males and females. This is because of the physical resemblance of the female's genitalia to that of the male. But in any case they are female organs. The females are not hermaphrodite as some have claimed at first sight.
Hyenas have 'toilets' whereby all the members go to deposit their dung. This adds to the boundary markings of their territory.
They communicate in a number of ways: When about to attack the tail is held high, when it is held forward over the back, it is a sign of excitement. And when frightened they hold the tail tucked between the legs. When there is presence of food, this is the time you hear the famous 'hyena laughter' especially in the night. This laughter
is a call to other clan members and can be heard up to 3 kilometers away.
It is important to note that though hyenas portray cowardly behavior, they can be extremely dangerous. They should be left alone, least intimidated and their respect awarded to them.

About the Author

Peter Philip is the operator of Natural Track Safaris, a Kenya based eco-friendly safari company catering for family outdoor adventures, camping and overland safaris.

Click here http://www.natural-track.com for comprehensive safari information.

Article Source: Content for Reprint

Tips on Booking Your HoneyMoon Trip

Tips on Booking Your HoneyMoon Trip

by jkhbraveheart

Now that you have found Mr. Right, he has given you a ring, and you have set the wedding date it is time to plan your honeymoon trip. Here are some helpful hints to help you plan, a trip that is enjoyable, and memorable for you both.

    * Decide where you want to go: Deciding where you want to go is most important and should be done by the both of you. Do you want a honeymoon cruise or a Hawaii honeymoon? Do you want a cool climate where sweaters or coats are required or would you prefer a warm climate where swimsuits are the required dress of the day? Are you interested in history and museums or parties and bright lights? Do you want excitement or solitude? All of these things should be discussed and decided before you reserve your honeymoon trip.

    * Check the local Climate for your destination: Always check the local climate for your desired honeymoon date of arrival. You want to pack the appropriate clothing. Seasons in other parts of the world can vary immensely from what you are experiencing in your hometown. You don’t want any surprises.

    * Check to verify the type of currency you will need. Always check to see what currency is accepted for purchases for the location you plan to visit. Order some local currency from your bank if your hometown currency is not accepted. Oftentimes, currencies differ in value. It is good to have some of the local currency available to avoid over paying. It is usually less expensive to purchase foreign currency from your bank rather than being at the mercy of a foreign bank or ATM. Have a good calculator for conversion of the local currency when you are shopping and know the current conversion rate for the local currency to your currency.

    * Check on the local language: Always ask if your language is readily spoken there. Usually English and Spanish is spoken worldwide.

    * Check on Passports and Visas: Check to see if a passport and or visa is required to enter into the country and to reenter back into your own. Some countries require more than 6-months remaining validity on a passport so verify theses requirements. I suggest you pack a copy of your passport inside your luggage or another safe place. The copy of your passport will speed up the government processes if your passport is lost or stolen while abroad.

    * Medical Information: Check with your insurance company to find out if your card is valid overseas. Make sure you have a sufficient amount of your prescription for your entire trip abroad. You should carry a copy of your prescription for any drugs you cannot do without. You will have it if your prescriptions are stolen or misplaced.

    * Reap Rewards: Most major hotel and resort properties have a Rewards Program. When you reserve your honeymoon trip, sign up for the Rewards Program. When you arrive give them your number and ask that your honeymoon trip be added to your account or if you have a number already, insert your Rewards Number when booking so your honeymoon will count toward the Rewards Program.

    * Be specific: When booking your honeymoon, list any special requirements like smoking or non-smoking room, handicap access accommodations, or any special food requirements you may have. Your honeymoon is one of the most important trips you will ever make in your life. You want it to be an enjoyable, comfortable and memorable one, remembered for the fun, joy, excitement and romance.

    * Confirm your flight 24 hours before you scheduled departure time to see if there are delays or cancellations. Most airlines allow you to print out your boarding pass about 12 hours prior to your departure. That could decrease the amount of time you have to standing in line.

Congratulations on your engagement and wedding. Have a great honeymoon vacation and I hope these tips are helpful.

About the Author

Lee Roseboro, Life Style Mentor and Successful Entrepreneur, is helping many become the next success story. Are you one of those persons whose dream vacation includes wide beaches, crystal clear ocean water, luxurious hotels with saunas and a wild nightlife? Well, then you should consider the Canary Islands as a destination for your vacation. Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura are the four main islands known as the Canary Islands, the dream-vacation destination for many people. Tenerife is probably the best known of them all and the place we are going to have a closer look at now, with a particular interest in Tenerife hotels and accommodations as this are some of the main concerns of the modern traveler.

Tenerife has developed significantly in the past few years especially in the southwest part of the island where you can find most of the residents and tourist. Therefore, many Tenerife hotels are located here. Playa de Las Americas and Los Christianos are the most popular parts of the island, where busy day and nightlife is at its peak and they alone gather a large part of the Tenerife hotels.

If getting a cheap flight is not a problem anymore, no matter the destination, due to the Internet, one of the main current concerns of someone who is planning a trip is the accommodation. If, when it comes to flights, there are a number of websites that offer cheap last minute tickets, it is not as easy to find an accommodation in due time so that you can benefit from the cheap flights. And this is the case especially if you consider such a popular destination as Tenerife is. Therefore, finding vacancies in a Tenerife hotel is not really a piece of cake. Unless, you know about this site: go-cielo.com which can offer you exactly what you want. You just have to type in some information about the kind of services you like, the number of rooms you are looking to book and the number of persons for which you are booking, and the site provides the available Tenerife hotels. It’s quite simple and very efficient as it can save you a lot of time.

Since Tenerife can welcome tourists almost the whole year long (as the sun shines 10 out of 12 months per year), there are many hotels to check out for vacancies. However, due to the high number of persons who come here on vacation, finding a free room can turn out to be quite a challenge, especially if you are looking for a particular hotel in Tenerife.

Just like anywhere else, cheap Tenerife hotels are of all kinds: cheaper, expensive and luxurious. You can find hotels in Tenerife closer or a bit further away from the beach, right in the center of entertainment and of the nightlife, or in a more private area where you can have a relaxed vacation. If you want to enjoy privacy, instead of looking for Tenerife hotels, you can lend villas for a short period for a wide range of prices. However, the well known hotels are safer and may include services a villa does not.

You can, of course, find expensive hotels in Tenerife that provide a wide range of services, from cable/satellite TV and Internet to pools, saunas or beauty spas. Exclusive Tenerife hotels also offer baby sitting service, tennis courts and meeting and conference facilities. However, as unlikely as you may think this sounds, you can also find cheap hotels in Tenerife if you look for them online, on specialized websites like the one mentioned above. They can help you compare prices and find accommodation at reasonable prices. It is enough to type “Tenerife hotels or “Hotels in Tenerife in any search engine on the Internet in order to find information. Still, finding a cheaper Tenerife hotel does not mean that you will not enjoy your staying there: most of them offer air conditioning, TV lounges and free Internet access.

Finding vacancies in Tenerife hotels is not an issue that can concern you a bit before leaving your home town because there are a few hotels and many tourists that want to enjoy their dream vacation in Tenerife. There are thousands of people, all year long, that look for a room to book in one of the Tenerife hotels. The luckiest persons have their own vacation apartment or villa there and do not need to worry about this aspect. Sometimes, if they do not live in Tenerife permanently, these people go on websites where they make a lending offer for their personal places. So, instead of looking for a hotel in Tenerife you may also look for a villa and have your own private place to enjoy your holidays. Again, in such a case, you don’t get to profit from several facilities Tenerife hotels offer.

Compared to the hotels in Tenerife, the villas have the advantage that you can go there with a group of friends and pay less than what you would pay in a hotel, if accommodation expenditure is equally shared. Moreover, in comparison to living in a Tenerife hotel, living in a villa is more private and it certainly has its advantages if you are looking for both wild nightlife and soft, relaxing days where you are not ready to mingle in the crowd around the hotel you are living in.

Tenerife hotels are most certainly built to offer their customers the best services at the fairest rate. The daunting Canadian Rockies lay along the border between British Columbia and Alberta, and contain dozens of top-notch ski resorts whose snowy peaks attract adventurers during the chilly winter months. The Pacific Ocean off the coast of British Columbia provides numerous adventure options when things start to warm up during the spring and summer, while Quebec and Ontario offer vast parklands, brilliant lakes and some mountainous terrain. The environment in the territories of Northern Canada is less forgiving and is comprised mostly of tundra, which is defined as being near-treeless mountain terrain. Up there, extreme cold-weather ventures, such as snowmobiling and dog-sledding, are prevalent.

EXTREME DESTINATIONS

British Columbia

Kayaking a Rapid on the Columbia River2

British Columbia is acclaimed internationally for its beautiful landscape, mild weather and high-flying thrills. The Pacific Ocean provides western Canadians with access to the great wide open. Here, surfers take to the tide to test their nerves and skills against the churning brine. Tofino offers some of the most popular surfing at Long Beach. Sea kayaking is also a popular sport. Novices and veterans alike pit themselves against the deep during the summer months. However, freshwater kayaking in British Columbia is far from unheard of. The Columbia River, for example, offers plenty of rapids. A plethora of rivers, waterways and rapids speckle the entire province and allow adrenaline junkies to shoot powerful rapids in canoes or kayaks or as part of a whitewater rafting group.

Rock climbing is also popular in British Columbia and the province is generally known as the extreme climbing capital of the country. Climbers often opt to test their abilities in the Rockies, but the inland city of Squamish provides its own unique challenge at the famous Stawamus Chief, a massive cliff-faced granite giant, provides more than 1000 different climbing routes and hosts extreme national climbing competitions each summer. The area is also a hotbed for mountain biking and corresponding competitions and events.

The Rocky Mountains

Catching Air in the Canadian Rockies3

The Rockies of British Columbia and neighbouring Alberta provide an entirely different range of endorphin-juicing options. BC has over 30 ski hills, including critically acclaimed international destinations like Whistler, Big White, Panorama, Fernie, Silver Star, Kicking Horse Mountain and plenty more. Alberta boasts a wide range of slopes in and around Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. Resorts such as Lake Louise, Sunshine, Norquay, Marmot Basin, Fortress Mountain, Nakiska in Kananaskis Country and Canada Olympic Park in the city of Calgary bring in skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. For an even more extreme downhill experience, heli-skiing here has gained an excellent reputation among die-hard adrenaline junkies.

During the summer months when the snow has thawed, the mountains teem with bikers, canoeists, kayakers, whitewater rafters and other outdoor and extreme sport enthusiasts. These parks and peaks make up the single most popular tourist destination in the entire country.

Alberta

Dirtbiking in Alberta4

Alberta offers its own range of exciting activities. Like the lakes in British Columbia, prairie lakes see their share of wakeboarding and waterskiing, jet boating and all manner of other watersports. Kiteboarding and windsurfing are extremely popular on Sylvan Lake, Ghost Lake and on other fresh-watered bodies scattered across the great Canadian plains. Snowmobiling, ATVing and auto racing are also tremendously popular exploits all over Western Canada and both pastimes are rooted deep in Canadian culture dating back to the time when gas turbine engines and the vehicles that used them became abundant. And like everywhere else that receives annual snowfall, tobogganing down the various foothills, valleys and ravines and pretty much any other downhill grade occurs every winter.

Eastern Canada

Windsurfing the Great Lakes5

The eastern provinces provide just as many opportunities to be extreme as those in the west. Ontario is home to more lakes and waterways than any other province in the country, and accordingly, a ton of watersports await visitors in this vast province. Waterskiing and wakeboarding, sailing and other waterbound thrills can all be successfully sought here. Boulevard Lake is very popular with wakeboarding enthusiasts.. Skydiving, hang-gliding and paragliding in Ontario and across Canada provides what adrenaline junkies refer to as “the ultimate hit.” Bungee jumping can provide a similar rush. Ontario is also home to numerous paintballing establishments. Of course, rock climbing and similar adventures can be experienced in this vast province as well.

Paragliding in Quebec6

Quebec 's landscape is fairly similar to that of Ontario, however, the province offers a unique downhill ski experience not found in its neighbour to the west. The province has more than 30 different slopes to choose from, the most well-known being Mont Tremblant, Mont Ste Marie and Le Massif, which has more vertical drop than any other resort in Eastern Canada and ample snowfall. Quebec summers are mild and accommodate loads of crazy outdoor pursuits with high-flying mountain biking being a popular favourite. The province has a significant number of ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts and indulges these folks with many trails and parkways.

Northern Canada

A Yukon Dog-Sled Exploratory7

Northern Canada 's snow-laden territories encompass an enormous area. The Northwest Territories, the Yukon and Nunavut all make up this barren landscape home to a sparse population but a ton of extreme outdoor adventures. The Yukon is home to the Yukon Quest, a 1609 km (1000 mi) race said to be the most challenging international race in the world. Dog sled teams from all over the globe rush to start the race in Fairbanks, Alaska and cross the finish line in Whitehorse, Yukon. Northern adventures and winter exploratory expeditions provide thrills unheard of when conventionally camping in a temperature climate. Tundra adventure tours are plentiful in the Great North.

About the Author

http://ratnatourandtravels.com

http://tourbuzz.biz

Article Source: Content for Reprint

What to do when your Five-Star Tastes exceed your Three-Star Budget

What to do when your Five-Star Tastes exceed your Three-Star Budget

by Cynthia56789

Right now, the economy is causing everyone to tighten belts a bit when it comes to spending money. Travel is extremely expensive, but your vacations do not have to suffer. Are you used to five-star accommodations and first-class travel? If so, you might feel uncomfortable resorting to cheaper travel plans. So, what should you do if your five star tastes exceed your three-star budget? Here is how to save money while you travel without sacrificing quality.

First, consider traveling less often. Although you may be used to going on vacation annually or even more often, by saving up longer for your vacation, you can travel in style. Right now, you might be scared to invest, but putting your money into a high-yield savings account is very safe. CDs can help your money multiply, and when you can withdrawal, you’ll have more to spend on your vacation. In the meantime, take shorter day trips or simply use some of your vacation days to get a little break from work.

If you are not willing to travel less often, you can still save money and travel in style. One of the best ways to vacation for less is to reconsider your transportation plans. Are you used to first-class flights and other pricey forms of transportation? You do not have to give that up! Instead, look for cheaper ways to purchase the same tickets. Websites like Priceline allow you to bid on your plane tickets, and when airlines have empty seats, they are usually willing to drop the prices for those seats significantly. That is good news for you! However, if you search for cheap tickets online, whether you are bidding or just using a basic search function, keep in mind that you will have to choose from the flights they post. These are not necessarily all of the flights. Sometimes, it can be more convenient to simply order tickets from the airline directly. Shopping around is important!

In fact, shopping around for the best price on everything is important – this relates to more than just your transportation. Shop around for hotel prices, rental cars, and tickets to your favorite events. This is where having a travel agent can come in handy. When you work with a travel agent, he or she often gets better deals on everything from theatre tickets to hotel rooms. Yes, you have to pay the agency a fee to plan your vacation, but in the end, this often leads to a better price overall. In addition, a travel agent knows secret “insider” information to many of the most popular tourist destinations. These tips can help you save money, giving you more to spend on the things that matter to you, like a nicer hotel room or better dining experiences.

Another way to save money while on vacation without giving up quality is to change your travel dates. You may not realize it, but the date you have planned for your trip is extremely important. Around the holidays, for example, more people are traveling so airline prices and hotel rooms skyrocket in price. Every location has a specific tourist season. For example, a mountain resort will be busier in the winter when skiers come to town while beach resort will be busier (and thus, more expensive) during the summer months. So, if you vacation in the off-season, you can get a better deal on everything. Even if you are not willing to change your entire vacation schedule, sometimes just moving the trip one or two days can make a big difference. Flights on Tuesday through Thursday are always cheaper than flights over the weekend, for example. Be flexible with your time and you can have a five-star vacation on a three-star budget.

Your location means a lot as well. Really popular tourist destinations are always going to be much more expensive, so look for vacations which are off the beaten path. Stay at amazing seaside resort in Maine this summer instead of visiting your normal hot sport in the Carolinas. Switch your plans from a pricey ski vacation in Aspen to a trip to a little-known community in the northern Appalachians instead. Choose a little local restaurant instead of endless room service.

Of course, if your bank account is not accommodating to a five-star vacation, you may have to compromise a bit, but there is good news. By going with a less expensive hotel or renting an economy car, you will have the money to make some of your other five-star dreams come true. You can also travel on the cheap for part of your vacation and then move up to spend the last day or two living like a king (or queen). Sure, it is not optimal, but it is better than not traveling at all, and when you return from your trip you will not be as worried about paying the monthly bills.

About the Author

Cynthia Andrews is a freelance writer who writes about the travel industry often focusing on vacation planning similar to what one would encounter when working with a travel agency.

Article Source: Content for Reprint

Five Tips For Traveling When You Are Single - Traveling

Five Tips For Traveling When You Are Single - Traveling

by bobby1986b

Sometimes, being single prevents people from traveling and going to their destinations of choice. Generally, people like to travel in groups and it can be weird or uncomfortable to travel alone. However, that really shouldn't prevent you from enjoying yourself, whether it's admiring the beauty of nature or losing yourself in a fun activity. Here's some idea for the single traveler:

1) Go with a group tour - many travel planning services offer group tours that allow people of similiar interests to come together and share their insights with each other. It's an awesome way to meet other people who are single and also looking for a traveling companion. A simple search in major search engines will find you a multitude of online travel services offering just that!

2) Find someone to go with - With the advent of the internet, it is now very easy to find an escort to travel with you with websites like http://www.alexisclub.com. If you're looking for someone to talk to, take care of travel planning, and are relatively well off, it's not a bad idea to pay someone to pamper you and take care of all the small details a vacation usually brings. After all, your goal is to relax and enjoy yourself!

3) Do things you enjoy and people will find you - While it may be nice to start with a group, it's not necessarily better than traveling alone. Sometimes, you'll meet people heading to the same place on the way who are sociable and friendly. It's usually easy to chat them up and go to the same places together. Not only will that person be interested in the destination you are traveling to, you'll get to pick who you interact with. Unlike going with a group or a companion, you're not tied down to any schedules or planning, so you are free to walk around and find more interesting people if the conversation starts getting dull!

4) Have fun by yourself - Just because you're single doesn't mean the place you are traveling to isn't enjoyable or fun. Oftne, it's just in the eye of the beholder. Why not immerse yourself in the area you are going to or the incredible people and culture? After all, you know what you like best, so being single can be a good thing. There is no one to tie you down and no negotiating to do the things you want to do!

5) Go to single people locations - There's many destinations that are very single people friendly, such as Las Vegas or Foxwoods. Many places are filled mostly with single peple, so not only would it not be awkward, it might be a good place to find someone who's interested in you!

6) Find a traveling companion amongst forums and friends - If you like to pick out the people you travel with in advance, engaging in a travel forum or a special interests form may be a good idea.

Sound Advise About Travel

1. scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Chinese'/>

Visit China to know more Chinese culture and Chinese food

by lilichinese

China has an abundant supply of foodstuffs. She is famous for her refined art of the cooking and preparation of food. In this country great attention is paid to the naming of the immense variety of dishes that may be laid on the table. High store is set by the shape and color of the ultimate product to be presented for consumption and also for appreciation.

The duration and degree of heating or cooking and the flavoring of the foods involved are also resolved meticulously. All this has rich philosophical implications and a solid historical background. For example, from remote past down to the present time, the Chinese culinary art lays emphasis on the need to preserve the natural shape of the foodstuff being processed if it is very beautiful, to preserve the original color if it can arouse an exquisite sense of delight, and to preserve the original taste if it is unique and flawless.

The underlying principle is that food processing should only enhance, not reduce, the merit of the raw material.
For the processing of this kind of food special technical treatments will have to be resorted to according to the traits of the material involved so as to "keep the original juice with the original flavor" without any change in character. The cooking theory of the culinary art emphasizes that "foodstuffs have each its own taste and flavor, which should not be made homogeneous through mixing" and that "every material should be enabled to make its own contribution and every dish should present its own unique taste and flavor". Some foodstuffs are very nutritious, but unfortunately they have the peculiar smell of fish or mutton.

In processing this kind of foodstuff different condiments will have to be added and different cooking utensils used to carry out various technical treatments such as stewing, simmering, stir-frying, deep-frying, quick-frying, quick-frying with vinegar, boiling and steaming so that the peculiar smell may be eliminated, nutritional value preserved, and the original deliciousness given prominence to.

China’s dietary culture has a very long history. It dates back to about 8,000 years ago, when people began to use mud for building pens in which they bred various animals including the six domestic animals well known to people everywhere, namely pig, ox, goat, horse, chicken and dog. Archeological study has proved that since that time there has occurred the extensive appearance in China of the cultivation of crops of the grass family such as millet, maize, rice, sorghum, hemp and flax. During the period of transition from the Qin to the Han Dynasty (221~200BC), barley, wheat and oats also came to be cultivated. There also appeared soybeans, red beans and black soybeans that were the fruits of agricultural labor.

The technique of growing spring onion, chives, garlic, radish and more than ten other vegetables was developed. The hothouse was used in winter to grow spring onion and hotbed chives. As for salt, wine, sugar, vinegar and honey, they were extensively used as condiments.

Even the drinking of tea was not something unusual.
If we say that a Chinese is an enigma and Chinese culture is also an enigma, then the ideological core of Chinese culture is the most enigmatic of all enigmas.
The core of culture, the ideological nucleus of a nation, is the general program of the existence and development of the nation. Once we seize hold of the general program, everything falls into place. Only when we have taken full command of the ideological core of a nation's culture, can we have a comparatively deep and thoroughgoing understanding of the nation's cultural characteristics, cultural personality, cultural behavior and cultural psychology. That is to say, only when a Westerner has mastered the ideological core of Chinese culture can he/she look at a Chinese with understanding, with penetration, and with precision.

It is for this reason that in previous articles I have introduced you to the influence that Chinese classical philosophy has had on her culture. Philosophy is abstruse, while culture in itself is concrete, vivid and lively.

About the Author

Chinese culture and chinese symbol is an Enigma

Chinese food culture

Related articles:

Chinese food,dietary history

Article Source: Content for Reprint
